I have always been drawn to new adventures and have never been afraid to try. From musical theater to rock climbing, I am always game. Perhaps this is the reason that I feel I have had multiple careers in my lifetime. I was a high school teacher and coach. Received a Master of Science degree in exercise physiology. Then a PhD in Immunology. Several years as a post-doctoral researcher, studying everything from immunology, endocrinology, and neuroscience. Now, I am a college professor and Alzheimer’s disease researcher…and an amateur photographer.
I think there has always been a bit of artist in me. Never fully cultivated, but always there. One of my favorite scientific endeavors, microscopy, is an example. As a scientist, I must visually tell a story to other science nerds using images of microscopic tissues and cellular structures. Spending hours staining tissues and taking images on several different types of microscopes is a normal day for me. Photography, I hope, is just another way to express this artistry.
My passion is landscape photography. Unfortunately, my job keeps me close to home. So, I have been working on several other photographic styles that can be done while in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I loved shooting our award-winning Keller High School Marching Band, especially since my child was in the band.
