Michael Chumley

Marching Band

When my only child began high school, he was already an accomplished musician.  He had performed on stage, and was learning to sing, dance, and play bass guitar.  He had also learned to play clarinet, bass clarinet, and contrabass clarinet in the band.  But once he began high school, that passion became all encompassing.  His high school marching band was one of the top marching bands in the country.  I first starting photographing the band using an old Panasonic G5 MFT camera.  During his sophomore year, I had purchased a used Canon 70D,  During his junior and senior years, I had also moved to a Cannon 5D IV.  I learned a lot about shooting action from an outstanding photographer, Rick Elieson, who has been featured in National Geographic.  His children were also in the band, and his kind nature and generous instruction helped my passion grow.  I will always be indebted to Rick.
